huh, i sure love wasting my education. but you prolly know i hate the un model to death lol

for some context, is pretty self explanatory what it is, but we have like multiple commissions (idk the world in english but lets use this for now), which are..programs ig?? there’s 9 commissions i think, each of them having their own countries (yes, the countries might repeat between commissions, but there’s a different delegate for each of them. otherwise i think everyone would avoid being the us delegate lol) or lack thereof (such as the national congress commission or the economics one, where i think everyone represents companies instead of countries) and their own different topics.

you can join this from 7th grade until u graduate, and ive had the blessing/curse of this being my first year (which i needed, since u need to participate at least once to graduate. idk the need but eh), as i didnt sign up on 7th grade because the un model was at the same time i was away for another school thing and on 8th grade i left last minute, as i couldn’t get my grasp on…practically anything ;-;. i signed up for the enviromental commission, i got assigned argentina, which i thought it was ok it seemed like a pretty nothing country for the subject we were managing and anyway is a third world one no one’s giving a fuck.

the issue is. im not argentinian. and argentina manages its water supply (main topic was water shortages) on a VERY WEIRD WAY

looking back, i seriously could’ve saved myself much time if i had jst googled but i didnt know, but i was young and dumb and with a huge block regarding the entirety of un so ofc i didnt to anything! ig ive never taken it truly seriously, which is smth i differ with with most of my classmates. i suppose is bc i never had friends in middle/high school while i still was on elementary. and to make things worse,i was stuck with a VERY important science project in which i was fully locked in, to the point i overworked myself and i abandoned all of my other academic responsibilities. including the un, so yeah i left lol. the 2 days in which the un was done, i simply stayed with the other kids who had skipped it too (we were 20 in total) stuck on a classroom not doing much, which was smth i intended to repeat this year. BUT IT WAS “MANDATORY” this time…though not really, many didnt come by simply jst not paying, but eh. if i need to come once in order to graduate, is better if i do it rn and not on 10th or 11th grade in which shit is going to get worse.

well, so this year i went to the historical commission, as it was ww2 themed and we were seeing it on history on the first semester, so i wouldnt be so lost. i choose to be the philippines delegate bc no one gives a fuck about philippines and i did the bare minimum for my documents and the near-weekly meetings to work on the model.

on wednesday, we had the opening ceremony :D. it was ok, simply speeches from the president of the un and each president of each commission, alongside a music presentation from the school band of questionable quality (though the main singer’s vocals were very good) and another speech from a random ahh lawyer. they also had a food bar which was very good, it had mini chocolate cakes and some mini breads with bacon :3, and im happy to have gotten there quick, bc the food bar opened at the end of the ceremony and 0.005 seconds later there was a huge crowd around it so ;-;. it was very fancy, everyone was dressed very elegantly and we got fancy folders and a…uhhh…card? idk. but they are pretty 2 :3

on thursday, we had our first debate :D. there was a plot twist at the very beginning bc i was suspended bc my presentation letter was awful. i was simply left out for 10 minutes, and thats is pretty much it. then the debate started. ngl, it was very very VERY exciting :D. we covered 1939 to 1942, and surprisingly, we weren’t very focused on yk, the actual war crimes from germany for most of the debate. mostly the debate was stuck bc the british delegate and the us delegate were beefing with the soviet delegate, calling eachother out for hypocrisy bc how dare they condemn the jewish genocide if they are awful on their own countries, and there was given an special focus on the war crimes committed in china by japan (oh boy they cooked the japanese delegate HARD. like on the first 20 minutes of the debate the chinese delegate called him out bc of the naijing massacre and the fucking unit 731. i sat next to him, which is ironic taking into account japan occupied the philippines on 1941, but man was he anxious. specially since the italian delegate was not doing ANYTHING and the german delegate left on the first hour so he barely had help), which makes sense, but most of them didnt even occur at the time, and judging by a conversation the us, chinese and japanese delegates had b4 the debate started, i think it was intentional. ethiopia and romania also had some beef in the middle of the debate, idk why, but there was an awful lot of reminders along the debate to stop fighting and do smth. i waited for pearl harbor to be mentioned, as without it, the japanese occupation of the philippines would have never occurred, and it was pretty much my only excuse to speak, and i jst ended up doing a brief intervention informing everyone of it, and another one later when we were on 1942 to inform everyone the situation was even worse. OH AND NORWAY, even if idk much abt norway’s role on the irl war, it was heavy here; and again jst same a old beef norway explaining to everyone to stop fighting quit bitching my country has actually done smth and then the us exposing some allyship between norway and germany and lets nor forget the temporary scandinavian allyship :D. i cant believe we went through 3 years without announcing some military attack on germany. i must admit, all the delegates who spoke a lot are great public speakers, and their speeches gave the whole thing energy. though i got rlly bored once i fulfilled what i needed to do, and im happy i wasnt the only one who barely spoke :3. we also had 2 food breaks, which were very very good :D. on the first one we had argentinian empanadas and on the 2nd a burger, and both were delicious. finally, i must mention i got ignored a lot lol, which was kinda weird to me as the us has a literal military base on the philippines and also got fucked up by the japanese…but i cant act like the victim, as i barely spoke, even when i might’ve had the chance to (though well, said chances were before japan had even come to the philippines, to it wouldn’t have been appropriate to take them).

today was the second and final day of the debate, frankly, it was far less exciting at the beginning, prolly since i wasnt focused at all. they started the whole nuclear war thing, or smth. THOUGH when i stopped paying attention, a plot twist happened, which was that germany joined the alience of the us and the uk and everyone went to fuck up the soviet union and japan, specially the us. and nearing the end of the first hour, the uk turned leftist :0. and it turned against the us. so we have a uk & soviets vs the rest of the countries (japan wasnt allied with the soviet band, but still everyone hates it), and then for some reason japan went through a redemption arc and allied with them?? idk what happened really i got distracted playing the google doodle island olympics game i want to kms really. so it ended up being a soviets (poland, ethiopia, gay uk, brazil, india and the soviet union) vs pretty much everyone else, and we ended up forming allyships AND organization between eachother (the us one was a organization against totalitarianism, and idk what was the other's) and then we left. idk who won, or if it was supposed to be a winner. then we had the awards ceremony :D, at like 2:30pm. more speeches, a few classmates of mine won awards for their interventions or written documents, we had another music presentation and im kinda sad most people didnt care abt it, as it was very good. AND WE HAD CUPCAKES AT THE END :D

overall, strong 5/10: boring if you do nothing, i wont go next year, but smth nice to experience for once :3

have a nice day y'all and srry for the bible ;-,
